Certifications

Lithium Werks batteries proudly hold the following certifications from these premier standards institutions:

ABS Type Approval logo

The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) is a classification society, with a mission to promote the security of life, property and the natural environment, primarily through the development and verification of standards for the design, construction and operational maintenance of marine-related facilities.

ABS’ core service is the provision of classification services through the development of standards called ABS Rules. These Rules form the basis for assessing the design and construction of new vessels and the integrity of existing vessels and marine structures.

Lithium Werks products with this Type Approval: U1-12XP, U24-12XP, U27-12XP, UEV-18XP, U27-36XP

DNV GL certification

DNV is an independent foundation with the purpose of safeguarding life, property, and the environment. Their history goes back to 1864, when the foundation was established in Norway to inspect and evaluate the technical condition of Norwegian merchant vessels.

Since then, their core competence has been to identify, assess, and advise on how to manage risk. DNV Maritime and Oil & Gas provides classification, verification, risk management and technical advisory services to the global maritime and oil and gas industries.

UL logo

UL 2054

These requirements cover primary (nonrechargeable) and secondary (rechargeable) lithium batteries for use as power sources in products. These batteries contain metallic lithium, or a lithium alloy, or a lithium ion, and may consist of a single electrochemical cell or two or more cells connected in series, parallel, or both, that convert chemical energy into electrical energy by an irreversible or reversible chemical reaction.  These requirements are intended to reduce the risk of fire or explosion when lithium batteries are used in a product.

UL logo

UL 1973

These requirements cover electric energy storage systems as defined by this standard for use as energy storage for stationary applications such as for PV, wind turbine storage or for UPS, etc. applications. These requirements also cover electric energy storage systems (EESS) as defined by this standard for use in light electric rail (LER) applications and stationary rail applications such as rail substations. These systems are intended for installation within either the rail car or within a sheltered stationary location such as a rail substation.

Lithium Werks product with this Recognition: P40-24

UL logo

UL 2580

These requirements cover electrical energy storage assemblies such as battery packs. This standard evaluates the electrical energy storage assembly’s ability to safely withstand simulated abuse conditions and prevents any exposure of persons to hazards as a result of the abuse.

RoHS logo

RoHS

RoHS, also known as Lead-Free, stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union and restricts the use of six hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products. All applicable products in the EU market after July 1, 2006 must pass RoHS compliance. RoHS impacts the entire electronics industry and many electrical products as well.

All Lithium Werks products are RoHS compliant.

UN/DOT 38.3

Nearly all lithium batteries are required to pass section 38.3 of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria (UN Transportation Testing) to ensure the safety of lithium batteries during shipping.

All Lithium Werks Batteries are certified UN/DOT 38.3
